Natural Remedies for Anxiety

There is no single reason why people experience chronic anxiety but it can interfere with every day life.  If you are suffering from an anxiety disorder, try some of these natural remedies that ease the condition for a time.  Remember, the best way to treat anxiety is to treat the underlying problem.  However, natural remedies can help in times of stress.


Natural Remedies for Anxiety - Chamomile and Catnip Tea

Herbs are wonderful natural remedies during times of stress and anxiety.  Chamomile and Catnip are relaxing and mildly sedative. 

Ingredients:
1 cup boiling water
1 teaspoon dried chamomile flowers
1 teaspoon dried catnip

Directions:
Pour the boiling water over the herbs.  Cover and allow the mixture to steep for fifteen minutes.  Strain and sweeten with honey if desired.  Drink three cups per day to relieve anxiety.



Natural Remedies for Anxiety - Valerian Sedative Tea

Valerian is a powerful herbal sedative and should not be taken for long periods of time.  However, it is safe to use in small quantities.  During times of great anxiety or stress, it's one of the best natural remedies for these problems.

Ingredients:
1 cup boiling water
1 teaspoon dried Valerian root


Directions:

Pour the boiling water over the dried root and cover.  Allow the mixture to steep for twenty minutes and then strain.

Drink up to three cups per day if possible.


The flavor of Valerian can be very strong.  If you cannot stomach the tea, try taking two 500 milligram capsules three times per day to benefit from one of the strongest natural remedies for anxiety.



Natural Remedies for Anxiety - Skullcap Calming Tea

Skullcap has been used for centuries as one of the best natural remedies for anxiety.  It is a mild sedative and brings about a calming effect.

Ingredients:
2 teaspoons dried skullcap
1 cup boiling water

Directions:
Pour boiling water over the dried skullcap. 
Allow the mixture to steep for fifteen minutes. 
Strain and drink three to four cups per day as needed.



Natural Remedies for Anxiety - Motherwort Anti-Anxiety Tea

Motherwort is another of the greatest natural remedies for anxiety.  This plant is an approved medicine in Germany for the treatment of anxiety disorders and has been used since antiquity as a sedative.  Avoid Motherwort if you are pregnant as it can cause uterine contractions.

Ingredients:

2 teaspoons dried motherwort

1 cup boiling water


Directions:

Pour boiling water over the dried herb and cover. 
Allow the mixture to steep for fifteen minutes and then strain.
Drink two - three cups of the tea per day, as needed.


Don't consume more than three cups per day and if you can't handle the bitter taste, you may want to add some honey or combine with other herbs.  If you suffer from anxiety of any kind, motherwort is one of the gentlest and most effective natural remedies available.



Natural Remedies for Anxiety - Stress Relieving Bath

Lavender, Sandalwood and Ylang-Ylang essential oils combine to create one of the most luxurious natural remedies for anxiety.  The Epsom salts in the bath are rich in magnesium which will help ease tension.

Ingredients:
2 cups Epsom salts

5 drops each lavender essential oil
5 drops sandalwood essential oil
2 drops ylang-ylang essential oil


Directions:

Add the Epsom salts to the bath as it is filling with warm water.

Then, add the essential oils, stirring to combine just before you get into the tub.

Relax for at least twenty minutes before emerging and your anxiety will melt away.


When I'm feeling stressed, this is one of my favorite natural remedies.  A warm, aromatic bath will do wonders for your stress and anxiety.
